The water that flows across this Earth is the same water that has flowed since the beginning of time. The tears of the mothers who mourn these disappeared children are the same as well. So many tears have already been shed, and so many more remain to be cried...
For Carmen Ruiz, this work is both personal and political. The intimate grief that followed the death of her sister in 2023 resonates with a vast collective pain, that of shattered mothers who move through worlds filled with chimeras, between life and death, to keep alive the memory of their children who have died or disappeared.
LA LLORONA is a contemporary dance creation, influenced by a Latin performative language and inspired by the mythical figure of La Llorona. On stage, four women artists from different backgrounds and generations embody grief and resilience through their bodies.
Colombian skirts become mountains, rivers, clouds, or places of refuge, while a pico, an emblematic Colombian sound system, carries music and echoes from the past. The score blends ancestral chants, traditional rhythms, songs, and electro-organic textures, creating a vibration that moves both body and emotion.
